Alaska has become a major cruise destination in the last 5 years. It's popularity in recent years has grown, and the demand to see Alaska's last unspoiled frontier continues to expand. When you cruise Alaska's incredibly beautiful coastline you can see white snowcapped peaks, glaciers in a dozen shades of blue to white, fjords with abundant wildlife such as bald eagles, sea otters and seals, whales, black bears, and huge brown bears. There is Native American art and culture, historic gold rush towns, and tons of outdoor adventure. Because of this region's immence popularity and very short season, the cost for Alaskan cruises are considerable.
Alaskan cruises are usually divided into two types, Gulf of Alaska cruises, or Inside Passage cruises. The Inside Passage is a great way to cruise Alaska, with most ships sailing round-trip from Vancouver or Seattle, through glacier country, and as far north as Skagway or Juneau. The Gulf of Alaska cruises visit more territory as they cruise all the way from Vancouver, up through the Inside Passage, and then up to Seward/Anchorage (or the reverse). Airfare for a Gulf of Alaska cruise is generally a bit more because Anchorage is so far north.
